Atmosphere

Opatija

Unique Opatija exudes discreet elegance and sumptuous beauty. Here, where the sea quietly laps the shores and the spirit of the Romantic Era penetrates every little corner, buildings have emerged, which still represent the charm of the old aristocracy who used to visit this area so often. Reserved women used to walk through the splendid gardens and parks in the shade of their lace-trimmed parasols, twice per day the local orchestra performed concerts, happy laughter rang out in the ballrooms where dance partners draped in charming ball gowns spun to the rhythm of the waltz whilst of the terraces, with a view of the blue Kvarner, great and powerful kings and emperors discussed their important political moves. Even today, many years later, the once so popular location still enjoys values and fullness of life. The villas and hotels of Opatija, which are of exceptional architectural value and surrounded by the ever-green Učka mountain, the heavenly sea and wonderfully set out parks, have combined the chic spirit with all conveniences in their offer to tourists. Thanks to its unique climate and pleasant temperatures, Opatija is not just attractive in the hot summer months, when it offers a great deal of refreshment, but also in winter. Because of its mild winters, it is still one of the favourite holiday and health resorts of the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. Opatija has numerous cultural and entertaining events on offer, an exquisite array of culinary delicacies and, last but not least, over the past few years, its fantastic wellness and beauty programme, all of which make it an ideal destination for an exciting, stress-free holiday. Every visitor to the charming town of Opatija will discover its timeless beauty and take it with them, no matter where they go.

Lovran

The wonderful area of Lovran, once called Lauriana, takes its name from the fragrant laurel leaf. Its story tells us of imposing sailing ships and expansive seas, of rich aristocrats and their power, of fragrances and aromas of the Mediterranean Sea, which flow through this town. The Liburnians settled on the coast and their settlement proudly shows the diverse architectural variety of many historical eras, beginning with the town wall and buildings with charming inner courtyards dating back to the middle ages to the impressive art nouveau villas and parks, which were built for the VIPs of the time and today have their place in the fund of architectural world cultural heritage. Protected from wind, with its mild climate, lots of fresh air and dense vegetation, Lovran has been recognised as an ideal health resort by the Austro-Hungarian elite, who built charming sanatoriums, villas and public baths, which are still used today, in the area. In its terrace-bordering gardens grow numerous types of cherry, grapevines and olives, whilst laurel trees, magnolia trees and pine trees thrive on the coast. Lovran is also known as the town of a kind of sweet chestnut which is of exceptional quality and from which well known culinary delicacies are produced. It is from these chestnuts that fabulous combinations of sweet chestnuts and game, fanciful desserts, healthy honey and brandy with honey, which is taken as "medicine" are produced. Full of stories, aromas, fragrances and colours as well as wonderful architectural buildings, Lovran gives its visitors the feeling of being content with life which is a feeling which remains with them when they leave and until they return to this beautiful town.
