FESTIVAL KVARNER

Mahler was here, Puccini visited and Lehar and Kalman were regular guests: we are of course talking about the incomparable Opatija. A town with arguably the most beautiful (concert) areas in the whole of the Mediterranean. What inspired us to start the Festival Kvarner? First of all: it was not a start-up in the usual sense of the word, we are reviving only the old, already established, idea of a Gesamtkunstwerk [synthesis of the arts], which already characterised and shaped this region over 100 years ago!

The interesting thing about the Kvarner region was and is that the inhabitants of this area did not establish the Kvarner Bay as a new holiday location but rather that the visitors actually "found" this unique area themselves.

And that's what happened in 2008: Michael Fendre and his team from the ad libitum Konzertwerkstatt had been searching for years for "the" location in which the music could form an exceptional symbiosis with the landscape and the climate and could thus offer the hearer a unique, unforgettable overall experience. This search lasted for seven years until location and music found each other - until Opatija presented "itself" again, just as it did over 100 years ago.
